PDE DAFO (Dynamic Ankle-Foot Orthosis with Posterior Dynamic Element)

The PDE DAFO is a dynamic carbon fibre limb control orthosis incorporating the Posterior Dynamic Element (PDE) System spring.

The PDE DAFO is an ideal lower limb orthosis for many of our clients with neuromuscular gait disorders and is particularly suitable in situations for control of high tone or spasticity or where high activity levels are encountered.

The PDE DAFO is fabricated from a cast or scan of the client’s limb and constructed from lightweight carbon fibre to provide the strength and torsional resistance to effectively control lower limb postural and gait deviations.

The PDE is a removable and interchangeable carbon spring that offers customisable adjustment of the orthosis resistance, enabling the user to select the ideal resistance and alignment to control the limb and optimise function.

The PDE spring is selected based on the individual’s weight, activity level and specific functional requirements. During walking, the PDE spring flexes and deflects to fluidly control and stabilise the limb and deliver an energy storing dynamic response at push off. The PDE  spring can changed at the time of fitting, during rehabilitation or as the user’s requirements change – to accommodate changes in activity level, fluctuations in tone, spasticity or ankle joint range of motion or changes in footwear style.
